What PSU do I need?

Go to solution Solved by brob,

i3, 8gb, and 250W (Non pfc) Power supply, and yes I would be overclocking but not getting another gpu, and I would not want to get a 970 because of the 0.5 that is not going to be used when in game.

Going with the GTX 970 would save significantly. Take a look at the various game benchmarks in http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_980/7.html. Note the GTX 970 performance at various resolutions, particularly in relation to the GTX 980. Seems to me that the odd memory organization of the GTX 970 has little impact in these gaming benchmarks.

Check pricing on Seasonic G series 550W & 650W or M12II 520W & 620W, and Corsair HX-650. You will have to check that the case has sufficient room to accommodate the psu. These psu are longer than the ATX standard of 140 mm.

Hey there, today I am panning on adding a gpu to my 'not so powerful pc', and I would like to know what psu i should get. I would like to make my dream pc instead but unfortunately GST has been introduced to Malaysia (Where I am right now) and the usd has gone up in value so I can't quite afford it yet. And GTA V came out and I bought it, thinking I would be able to buy my pc soon but instead GST and as mentioned before has happened, therefore I am looking to take some of the parts that would make up my dream pc, shove them into that old pc, game on them till I CAN get the new pc then revert the old pc to its original state and build that pc, simple right? (Sarcasm).

My old and extremely weak pc -  http://www.blobs.lt/products/8/0/3/1/9/0/3c0c1b90758ae3b7a27a3820b3ae16b4.pdf

GPU - Asus Direct CUII GTX 980 Strix

PSU - HELP!!!

I have corsair, cooler master, silverstone and seasonic powers supplies all available to me for purchase but I am not sure which one to get for the better price. Help please?

For a single GPU, any 500w will do. For dual, you are looking at 650w.

The link does not provide specific enough detail of the computer you own. What cpu? How much memory? What size psu is currently installed?

Did you consider getting a GTX 970 instead of the 980?

If the psu is for your "dream" system, will that system be overclocked? Do you plan multiple gpu?

Sigh... another case of a missinformed person. Oh well. Would you like to remain a pig or grow up to be a man? If your answer is the latter, keep reading.

The imagine 2 instances: one where you don't need those .5gbs and one where you do. In the first case, ofc it wouldn't use those, as they aren't needed. In the second, be thankful that those extra gbs are there; if they weren't you'd have massive performance hits.

So, you are saying it depends on the games I would be playing, the resolution I would be playing at and etc right?

Ok you've convinced me, I guess I will go with a 970, since if I want to play gta v right now that wouldn't be a problem ( 1600 x 900 ). And it would save a ton of money for me, thanks mate and I will look into what psu can fit and support my gpu.
