I'm looking to ugprade from my R9 270 because it's not cutting it these days, especially for GTA V. What I want to know is, what would be more of a powerful card for the next 6 months? I've been looking at these two :

R9 280X can be had for $190 which is basically the price of an 960, and it handily outperforms it while having 3GB of VRAM which will be helpful looking towards the future.

960 and 280 have about same performance so pick the cheaper one. But i would suggest saving a little bit of money and taking 280x beats them both.

280

Id wait to see what the 300 series has in store but the r9 280 is more powerful than the gtx 960 although particularly in grand theft auto nvidia cards have shown much better performance.

The 280 seems to outperform the 960 in almost every case, and has 3GB of VRAM giving you that extra 1GB buffer compared to the 960. However i'd save up a bit more and go for a 970 or wait for the new cards from AMD and see how they compare

Lisa su has confirmed that the 3xx will be around the second half of the years. Earliest is July...

960

How

I can play GTA5 on high settings with my 7950 at good framerates. I havent measured it but I don't notice any drops. Isnt the 7950 equal to a 280?

The 7970 is equal to the R9 280. GHz edition is the 280x i believe...

None. Wait for a new card in May/June or grab a 290.
