Buying Open Box GPUs?

Is it a good idea? Currently I"m looking to buy one of Newegg, its about $70 cheaper than it would be BNIB. However, Newegg only has a 30 day return policy and I might not be able to even test it for possibly longer than that. Would the manufacturer of the card take it still if I tried to RMA it?

most likely, i can't imagine it being opened boxed for over a year, which is typical warranty time.

 

worst case scenario for gpus is you don't get a sli bridge manual or discs.

(well worse case scenario you get sent an empty box but that prob won't happen)

From my experience in retail, open box products keep the manufacturer's warranty from your date of purchase. That being said, I'd confirm with Newegg directly to be sure. Some manufacturers (cough cough Apple) make it a bit more difficult to RMA open box products.

Yeah it should be good. Unless it is an AMD card on ebay that was used during the Bitcoin mining craze.

most likely, i can't imagine it being opened boxed for over a year, which is typical warranty time.

 

worst case scenario for gpus is you don't get a sli bridge manual or discs.

(well worse case scenario you get sent an empty box but that prob won't happen)

Depends where you are in the world, EU has a minimum of 2 years by law, regardless of what the warranty info says.

They only advertise a 90 day warranty usually, occasionally 1 year if listed as manufacturer re-certified. Since the GPU should always be the most expensive component in your system, as it's the most important, I wouldn't chance a garbage warranty. I'd contact the manufacturer before buying to see how long they'll honor the warranty if you do buy open box.
