@Troll4X4

The build looks alright, but I would make a couple tweaks.

You're sinking some money into the wrong places. More often than not, a Sound Card is not necessary. Only purchase if you notice that your motherboard's DAC has a lot of noise.

Here's a build that I cooked up including many of the same outer components:

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3brW8d
Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3brW8d/by_merchant/

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($28.95 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($89.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Corsair 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($63.17 @ Amazon)
Storage: PNY Optima 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($89.29 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($52.49 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 280X 3GB Tri-X Toxic Video Card  ($279.99 @ Amazon)

This is more a gaming oriented PC. If you aren't gaming at all, I'll recommend you a slightly different build.
Feel free to quote this to ask questions, or for a different build for a different purpose.

Hope this helps :D

Dual Boot Windows & Hackintosh

CPU: Intel 4790K | Motherboard: ASUS Maximus Hero Vii | GPU: Zotac AMP! Extreme GTX 970 | Display: ASUS PB278Q | Case: Phantom 630 | PSU: Corsair HX1000i

Are you sure my brother has built plenty pc's and says i should at least have an i5

What are you wanting to do with the PC?

If you're gaming then you want to prioritize the GPU much more than the CPU, but only to a point.

Sig under construction.

That power supply is overpriced. The XFX XTR 550W can be had for $61 after rebate.

Also a R9 290 for $249

He included the RM series PSU in his own build, perhaps he wants it quiet?

Also, the 290 is 279.99 and only on sale for a limited time. Usually it's over $300. Also, I'm from Canada, so when I select parts and convert them to the US part picker, it sometimes isn't necessary the best graphics card. The idea is purchasing a 280x.

Sorry for the confusion

The XFX psu has hybrid fan mode same as the RM.

The card is on offer until 20th but there will probably be other offers on R9 290 cards.

Go with I5, change your mobo into Asus Pro Gaming series yes you dont need the z97 for the time being. And I can tell its for gaming. Save few bucks from the mobo and put it into a decent GPU and you are good :)

Intel Core i5 - 6400 <> Msi B150A Gaming Pro <> Msi Gtx 970 Gaming <> G.Skill Ripjaw 4 16Gb DDR4 2400mhz

<> Corsair CX500M <> 160 & 250 Seagate HDD <> Aerocool Strike X (Casing) <>

You are not going to need more than 16GB Ram anytime soon. I would go with 2 x 4GB.

I don't see any advantage of 2x4 vs 1x8... why would 2x4 be any better?

At least you have more slots with 1x8

Assuming this is a gaming pc you are never going to need 32GB Ram. You get a slight boost with dual channel mode, and aesthetically it looks nicer with dual sticks imo. You are also getting a matched kit which is the most important thing.

Alright... I didn't know there was much of a boost with dual channel, and 1x8 ensures that there's no interference with the heatsink though...

Not a huge boost, but it will be slightly better. If you go with low profile Ram such as Kingston HyperX Fury then it will fit under any heatsink.
