Black is high performance. Have a lot of games? I'd go with that one.

Blue is great performance, lower cost.

I wouldn't use a Black for mass storage. It's a bit of a waste.

WD Black drives are basically enterprise drives that lack some of the enterprise features. They're the "premium" consumer drives and come with a better waranty. Besides that they're basically identical. As for 1TB vs 2 TB, usually lower density HDDs have lower failure rates, but in the past there has been all kinds stuff going on to the point where the batch that they came from is probably more important.

If you really need 2TB of space, get a 2TB drive. If you don't alctually need that much space 1TB is still totally fine. Don't bother with WD black drives imo, and maybe look into NAS drives if you actually want something that is more reliable.

Black has better performance but in my opinion unless your going to be hitting that drive with a decently heavy load it shouldn't matter.

Either one, doesn't matter much, the black is slightly faster, and louder, the blue is slightly slower and quieter, still not enough to make much impact though.

Hi there @Zackslay3r!

The difference between these two drive is in the purpose they are designed for.

The Black is a performance oriented drive and has build-in features like dynamic cache (which optimizes the cache allocation) and no touch ramp technology (the recording head never touches the disk) that will give you faster loading times, and has 5 years limited warranty as well.

WD Blue on the other hand is meant for everyday computing - very good drive with solid performance and typical power consumption, which comes with capacity up to 1TB and 2 years limited warranty.

As for the capacity of the HDD, it depends on whether or not 1TB will be enough for you.

Hope this helps.

Cheers! :)
