Well the 970 G1 from Gigabyte is pretty good, also EVGA and ASUS make awesome cards, don't think there are really bad 970s

G1 Gaming or AMP Extreme I think have the highest OC from the factory.  I'm not sure what has the "best" cooler as I think they all work well.

I may be biased in this, as I have always used EVGA for my NVidia cards, but EVGA's SC ACX 2.0 is great

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

I have 2 EVGA ones and they work amazing and they cover overclocking in the warranty. I picked up an Asus card as well just to try it out and then return it and it ran very quiet even with a BEAST overclock. It overclocked like hell and kept chugging. The Asus card also looks better in my mind but I'm not sure if they cover overclocking in their warranty and now that I think of it I probably shouldn't have overclocked mine when I knew I was going to return it... Oh well! If Asus covers overclocking then I would go with them but if not I would go for EVGA

If MSI had made a Lightning edition of this card I would have bought it.  Love their Lightning stuff.

Best non-stock cooler/core clock on the 970

(Does this even matter?)

The Gigabyte G1 970 as others have said above.

I can personally say that it's a very good card since I own two of them.

Looks like I have 2 options the gigabyte g1 or the evga sc

Look, there is no "Best" model. Each one has it's perks. And once you consider the prices of each model, you'll soon realize that many of the "best" cards aren't worth the price they as for. And that's not even to mention the aspect of the looks, which is a completely subjective model.

Tell us what exactly are you looking for and we can give you a card that better matches your criteria.

Right now the G1 Gaming is on sale (newegg) for 349 and has a 30 dollar mail-in-rebate.  I know MiR's are a PITA, but it's still 30 off.  It also comes with a digital download for Witcher 3.  Not a bad deal at all for a very top-end 970!

The G1 Gaming from GIGABYTE, it has the best overclocks, there are cards with higher core clocks but this one overclocks the best, also it has the best cooler. Only drawbacks are power consumption and the length of the card
