Upgrading OS (Question)

ffxiimaniac
Go to solution Solved by mikat,

just move the folder that you have your steam games in, and then redownload steam and point the downloads folder for steam at that folder :)

Hey guys and girls of Linus' forum! I plan on upgrading from windows 7 to windows 8.1 here soon. (My w7 setup is getting slow, and I'd like to start fresh) I just have a quick question regarding this. I have multible hardrives. I want to know if/how I would go about moving my Steam games and folders. I don't want to have to redownload and install them again. That's my question. Can you move the Steam folder without losing your games, and if so, how?! Thanks!

So it works like iTunes in this regard?

i think so, and steam searches your whole computer for games on install, so it should be able to find your games ;)

Thank you! Is there anything else I should know? I was thinking about Linux, but I cant play my games, so NOPE.

If u are using windows 7 sp1 or higher u can upgrade to windows 8.1 just by clicking upgrade button. But you have to run the setup file from your pc, i think you cannot use bootable usb.

After you upgrade all yours files, softwares installed on windows 7 will appear in windows 8.1

I think windows 8.1 is better than windows 8 or 7. It is user friendly.

You think you're 8? I've never known of anyone who isn't sure of their own age. You have pretty good grammar for an 8 year-old.

I'd suggest staying with Windows 7, Windows 8 - 10 don't appear to be as well optimized for gaming.

I'm now running on 8.1. Runs much smoother. I of course have classic shell installed. The fewer ram requirements for W8 is nice.
