Windows XP- 'Registry_Error' bluescreen

This morning when I turned my computer on it posted normally, started loading windows, then as soon as the loading screen went away it blue screened with 'Registry_error'. I thought ok, maybe windows is corrupted'. So I proceeded to go through the normal re-install procedures. However when I got to the agreement after the drivers were loaded, I agreed and the installer started looking for previous installations. It detected my 80GB boot HDD and my 1TB storage HDD then it popped up the 'Registry_Error' bluescreen again. I've looked online already and I haven't found any possible causes, and I've gone as far as resetting the Bios with no luck.

Does anyone know what could cause this to happen? As its driving me nuts not being able to get this computer back up and running.

Do you have a second computer to make sure your hard drives are working properly?

Yes but its in pieces after a PSU failure. And all of the HDD are being recognized by the Bios and the last SMART test I did, which was a few days ago, showed no problems with them.

Things can change overnight. I'd find another psu you can quickly use. Or try one drive at a time and see if it BSODs again.

Ok. Would a RAID controller cause this problem? I can disable it from the Bios if necessary.

I've just tried barebones with only the graphics card and DVD drive plugged in and the error is still appearing at the same point.
