@ErkIEst follow your thread

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

Hi there @ErklEst!

In order to use your old drive in the new computer as a boot drive you need to reinstall the OS because the OEM copy of Windows is tight to the motherboard.

However, you can install it as the second drive in a new one. Everything that used to appear on the C: drive on the old computer might now appear as the D: drive on the new one. Once it’s set up, copying files from old to new is both easy and fast.

Hope this helps.

Cheers! :)

In theory, you can just swap the drive across, boot the system up, Windows will detect all the different hardware and install drivers. Then you might get a message about your Windows license being tied to a different motherboard. You can phone MS and have a quick chat with them, letting them know that you've had to change your motherboard, because the old one was defective, and they can untie your Windows license from the old BIOS ID. Once this is done, you need to reactivate Windows and it'll be tied to the new motherboard.

They generally only let you do this once, but it's something they can't really avoid happening from time to time, as they cannot force users to buy a new license just because a motherboard breaks. Also, this will generally only apply to OEM versions of Windows as far as I am aware. A full boxed retail version should not tie to your motherboard.

Also, if you're using a pirated version, none of this applies, but we do not condone pirated software of course.

Hi there @ErklEst!

But even then you can just put the product key in, that's what I did. When you get a new motherboard it deactivated windows only, and can be reactivated by using the key.
