Overclocking HELP PLEASE

Hey guys I need help overclocking my cpu on this motherboard, at least to 4ghz 

 

Here are the screenshots I took of my mb bios when I tried this overclock windows 8.1 gave me an error code:

we're meant to know what your cpu is how?
edit-its an fx4 isnt it.
set multi to 20, turn off turbo
set voltage to 1.4 and test for stability, make sure your HT and NB is under 2200.
if it fails raise voltage a bit and try again.

it is fx6300

And could you be specific on what I have to change in the image, since this is my first time overclocking.

what board do you have?

cpu clock ratio-20

cpu northbridge-11

core performance boost-disables

(auto from here)

cpu voltage control-1.4v

cpu loadline calibration-0% or "normal" or whatever

cool n quiet-disabled

bot into windows and see what cpu-z says your stock volts are (write them here once you know)

open cinebench and watch the votls as it does the test and see how much it drops.

go back into bios and put the laodline calibration up a notch untill the voltage under cinebench matches stock/idle volts

also open coretemp and see what it says your stock "vid" is down the bottom and write that here too.

dont worry abotu crashing screen shots from here, but take a print screen of cpu-z in (stress) and cpu-z in idle, and coretemp at load.

press alt+PrScn maybe 3 seconds after you start the test then stop it by exiting cinebench.

then paste it into paint, save it and upload that.

im guessing your cpu VID is 1.275 which means 1.4v should be more than enough, in fact depending what board you have (still dont know) it mgiht be too much for the vrm's (unsure) so try it at 1.3v instead

yep, you see how the voltage during stress is much lower? thats vdroop (google it)

what motherboard do you have before we go any further.

my core voltage stressed now: 1.400-1.600

reduce your loadline, voltage under stress should be as low as possible (but no less than idle), 1.5+ is not good

what options for loadline calibration do you get? a percentage like "5%" or "low", "medium, "high"?

have a look in the cpu section where the FSB and voltage is and look for "loadline calibration" or LLC etc if you find it set it to medium or 5%(ish) and retest but let me know what it says.

(on my old m5a78l-m/usb3 it was a percentage and i often set it to 3% just to give it something under load as it didnt vdroop much.)

edit- you have a 3+1 phase vrm which will severely restrict any overclock you do.

rather than push beyond 4ghz i would recommend seeing how low you can get the voltages to be while maintaining stability.

Stressed: 1.224

 

Is that any better, or should I change anything?

Thats allot better, it might be worth seeing if you can get the stressed voltage to around 1.3 though as its more liekly to be a stable setting (from experiance) rather than having to increase it bit-by-bit, so 1.25-1.3 idle, and 1.275-1.325 load would probably be a great start.

if you can get that then see if it passes cinebench. AND monitor coretemp not only for temps but see if the speed drops to less than 3.95ghz, if it does drop down to 2ghz or so during the benchmark then your vrm's are likely throttling to prevent damage, but lets not focus on that unless it happens.

if it passes cinebench without throttling post your results here.

well if its not downclocking and your temps are fine then its time to start stress testing, try amd overdrive's stress test which has a 1hour preset, then if you like try prime 95 blend for an hour and if it passes you should be good.

if for any reason it fails try and get that load vcore to 1.3v

1.650-1.7 is kinda too high for my tastes. what are your temps like?

thats really wierd, i think the second your board detects 1.3v it puts the LLC way too high, its probably better to run it too low than too high as you;ll kill your board with anything over 1.45v.

put it to 1.25v ish and call it a night. 3.92ghz is fine, depending on how stable it is you might be able to get 4.2ghz on 1.25v (if you're lucky)

1.650-1.7 is kinda too high for my tastes. what are your temps like?

1.65V is far to high, even on a good board 1.5 is the maximum limit even for benching, 1.45v is a good maximum for daily use, he has a low VID chip at 1.275v which is good as it should still remain stable at low volts but his board has a poor vrm so the total power he can draw is very low.

because of this he needs to keep his voltage as far down as possible which would be good temps wise.

if he can be stable at 1.25v at 4ghz thats good and his temps will likely be <50*c under load.
