Recently upgraded to 290 crossfire. While gaming my cpu usage is 80+% while got usage is low 40%ish. Is the 4690k not fast enough for these two cards? No thermal throttling, temps are always below 60c on cpu, always below 75c for both gpus

Is v-sync enabled?

EDIT: You're running at 1080p, so that may be the culprit.

Depends on the game really, many of the triple a games of late are easily cpu bottlenecked.

But cpus are so overkill for games these days. I can't believe a 4690k can be bottleneck already. But perhaps two cards as fast as a 290 will do it in. That is a lot of shit for the cpu to work with.

Disable crossfire and see if single gpu utilization increases.

It doesn't. But cpu usage is at 40%. When mantle is enabled this problem is gone, problem is mantle is unstable. Causes crashes.

Depending on your power options in control panel, your cpu may be told to use 100% at all times, therefore having a couple applications on the background while gaming will have a high usage %.

It's been tested over and over again, only a few games are bottlenecked past 4 cores; sometimes performance dips with more cores.

I don't think that's a bottleneck issue. I got an i5 2500k(stock) with two gtx 680's I can't feel any bottleneck in any game but then again all games cap at 60 fps (v-sync)
