So, my budget is about $1500USD. I'm building a computer that is going to be used primarily for gaming(to be upgraded to crossfire/sli for multi display gaming later), a bit of coding, streaming, and a bit of YouTube video editing and rendering.

Link thingy!

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Karen-Lynn/saved/cnDTwP

The games I'll be playing range from Minecraft and Terraria to older games, EVE online and other space ship games(elite dangerous, star citizen, etc), MechWarrior online, thief, dishonored, heavily nodded Skyrim, and such.

Any tips?

Unapologetic AMD fangirl. Yes, I'm biased. Yes, I know sometimes nVidia and/or Intel is an equal or better option. Yes, I try to keep it in check.

I still like AMD more.

@Karen Lynn Since you'll be editing I went ahead and got a 8-core cpu instead of an i5, you picked overkill parts, I changed the monitor to a g-sync monitor and picked out a 970 I also changed your PSU to a more sensible one rather than what you picked which was a real overkill.

edit: I forgot the Case lol sorry I'll change it in a jiff.

edit 2: Finished I think that's a mighty fine build now.

@RedSphyxis The case and power supply was there because I do intend to go either crossfire or SLI and custom water cooling down the line.

Besides those two piece, what else was overkill?

Why the graphics card switch?

Here. This sould pretty much rape any other builds. You don't need high RAM for the low workloads of video editing, but you'll need raw power for your games. You also have 0 need for a 144hz panel, a 1440p is just a lot more worth it.

You can SLI, as well as add a CPU cooler later.

even with two 970's in sli the 650W would still be able to power it in theory but you could always go for the 700-800 range the 1000 was too overkill unless you're going to 3/4-way or quad-cfx/sli.(which is impractical at 1080p even in surround).

I changed the graphics since you were planning to buy a 144hz monitor. So why not go for a monitor with Adaptive Sync technology like g-sync, so I went with the 970. And buying a 2xx series card from amd right now would be somewhat a waste since the 3XX series cards are just around the corner.

If you truly are watercooling I suggest you save up for a i7-4790k and a z97 motherboard of your choosing. Rather than buying the parts now with a limited budget that would limit you to a AMD cpu(since you're aim is probably a 144hz monitor which is not cheap)

You always go down the route where you won't be buying a monitor now but instead use a monitor you currently have for the time being and saving up for a nice monitor like the Acer 144hz that I suggested.

If you follow this You can have a build as powerful as this

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($324.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI Z97-GAMING 7 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($169.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card  ($329.98 @ NCIX US)
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe ATX Full Tower Case  ($149.99 @ Amazon)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)  ($87.88 @ NCIX US)
Total: $1434.99

And then save up for a nice g-sync monitor(freesync if you're going to buy one from team red) and another 970 in sli.

note:you could also get a 980 but I suggest buying a 1440p monitor instead of a 1080p

edit: I won't recommend going for the 900d since it's really expensive and if you have every part in it you probably can't carry it all by yourself.

A much more powerful processor with a CF capable motherboard. A better sized, excellent quality psu. Mostly a less expensive case in the same model line.

Thank you for the tips, suggestions, and reasons. I'll have to look over each of these.

I'm also happy to see more posts from others! More suggestions!

Not a single piece is purchased yet, not being scavenged. I'm going to plan this for a few months while saving up.
