I'm looking to get into some photo and video editing but my laptop I have right now just isn't going to cut it. I'm going back and forth between building a pc and buying a laptop, but I would really like a laptop that I can use for school too. I'm planning on mostly using After Effects, Premiere, and Photoshop (and probably a little gaming to). Right now, I'm thinking about getting the Lenovo Y50 http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/y50/?sb=:000001C9:0001392F:&IPromoID=LEN524848

These are the specs:

-4th Generation Intel Core i7-4720HQ Processor (2.60GHz 1600MHz 6MB)

-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 4GB

-16 GB RAM

I know this isn't going to have mind blowing performance, but I can't spend a ton of money. From what I've read so far it seems to have pretty good reviews. Based on the specs what do you think I could expect? Would you recommend this computer and if not is there anything you would recommend around this price point? Thanks!

if you plan to bring the laptop back and forth to school

then yea..get a laptop

if the comptuer is mostly gonna stay in once place...and you want more bang for the buck...get a desktop

or do what some of my clients do

build a nice desktop

and buy a cheap small portable netbook for school ....then you get the best of both

If you need remote help fixing something on your computer

I can help over Teamviewer if you wish

just msg me on my profile

actually it will have some pretty mindblowing performance.  I'm currently using the smaller Y40, and it already has great performance, considering it's a dual-core i7 and a weaker GPU.
