Do I need to clean the cpu?

Go to solution Solved by Queek,

Like the topic is saying. Do I need to clean the cpu if im going to buy a new cooler? And add new thermal past? A newbie when it comes to this :P

Yes, you need to clean it (and apply more).

As folks have said above, use isopropyl alcohol (commonly known as rubbing alcohol).  Don't use any other solvents, as they may damage your components.  It is available from most supermarkets or pharmacies.

If you're located in the UK, you can use isopropyl wipes.

Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”
