Hey there

I have an rather old computer, which doesn't run that well anymore and I want to build a new one.

So my question is, where should I start?

I already have:

GPU (MSI GTX 970)

PSU (be quiet! Pure Power L8, 600W)

HDD (2TB)

what I want to replace:

Motherboard (stock from HP)

CPU (some i7 with ~2.2 Ghz)

RAM (i got 8 RAM but want more)

CASE (HP-Hpe)

Now my question is what I should choose first to replace, because everything seems to be connected and if I miss something, I could buy a completly wrong item and that's what I'm afraid off.

Thanks in advance

You prabably won't need more than eight for the time being. It might be better to just save the money you would have spent on another 8gig (what I would do) or roll it into getting a slightly better version of another of the components you need.

All of my stuff is stock and runs at stock speeds and temperatures (I have an i3 and it's been fine for gaming so far (just waiting to test it with GTAV to get a benchmark).

Basically I advise not overspending and just saving the money you'd otherwise spend for an earlier upgrade :0/

Edit: Also, the SSD is better for general multitasking (really a lot faster), but won't make a difference to gaming (you might get faster load times but that's it). :0/

That's some fast research right there.

Thank you very much, I'll look into it.

Do you think $350 per item is not enough for decent power?

350$ per item? your looking at infinite combinations here. I only chose under 1000 USD which is a reasonable price for modern gaming, not enthusiast level

Per item price isn't the best way to go about it. It's far too general. What's better is that you give us a budget for the entire build and perhaps some idea of what you'd like to use it for. If it's just for maxed gaming at 1080p or 1440p, well, You've already got the power supply, the GPU and the mass storage, so for now I would say go with

a 4690K,

a Cooler Master Nepton 240M,

an MSI Gaming 5 Z97 motherboard

A decent 256GB SSD like a Crucial MX200 or an Adata ASP900

and 8GB of the cheapest RAM you can find.

The case is completely subjective. Pick one.

Hey presto, kickass gaming rig.
