Worth upgrading?

Is it worth it to move up to an i7 2600k? They're pretty cheap on ebay, and the motherboards are dirt cheap. I've got an i7 950 that wasn't a great over clocker(wont post past 4.2 ghz even with 1.5 volts) I mostly play cpu intensive games like arma and battlefield. I don't wanna drop down to the i5 as they're typically $15 less and dx12 should benefit from hyperthreading. I was planning on buying a haswell i7 after broadwell launched to save some cash but these look pretty good too. Also if I upgraded to a second r9 290 do you think I'd run into any cpu bottlenecks?

If you're not happy with the performance if the 950 then upgrade

I say, wait till 5th gen comes out. Your processor will do just fine till then. If your pc is slow, get an SSD

yes, you are going to start running into cpu bottlenecks with dual gpus, i would suggest getting a z97 board and a xeon 1230 cpu

 

a upgrade to sand bridge is not worth it unless you have a really REALLY good deal on them, im talking under $100 for a i7 and board

I like overclocking too much too buy a xeon lol

I pretty tight on cash, that's why I asked. I really don't wanna drop $500+ on brand new parts.

True, it is easy to get 5GHz on a fair few of the 2600Ks

That's what I was thinking, I don't have a problem driving up voltage to get a good oc too.

I realize that, but like I said money is tight. I was asking if the 2600k was worth it's price for this reason.

i would say not worth it, save your money for one of the cpu's i said before

I don't have a need for a 5820k, Don't need the extra cores or lanes. Also can't afford ddr4 yet. Maybe I'll wait for black friday at microcenter
