Hello there!

Firstly I'm french so pardon my english if I make mistakes :D

So a little background before I post my planned build:

My current PC is an old ass dell XPS 720 bought for my 18th birthday in 2008 here are the specs:

-CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @2.4Ghz

-Mobo: Dell Inc. 0P611C A00

-GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX, 768 Mb

-HDD: NVIDIA STRIPE 931.52G

-RAM: DDR3 Corsair XMS3, 2x2 Gb, 1600Mhz, CAS 9

Peripherals:

-Screen: DELL E228WFP 22"

-Keyboard: Corsair K70 (Cherry Mx Brown)

-Mouse: Logitech G502 Proteus Core (love it!)

So this PC served me quite some time, but it shows its limits with currents game (low to medium, or unplayable for some new games).

It's been around a week since I decided I want to mount by myself a computer, I have not much knowledge in computer parts or overclocking in general (never could OC with my dell that's why), so please, don't tell me "buy X instead of Y", I would like understandable explanations ^^.

Now, a few things you should know before:

I plan on beginning stream/youtube videos (always wanted but never could) and of course hardcore gaming (max settings for witcher3 and the like, like I did with crysis on my current PC).

I would like to be safe for at least 2-3 years before upgrading (preferrably 3+ years :D)

I want dual monitors (1for gaming, 1 for other things like twitch chat, browsing etc...) and I would like to be able to play in 4K, but the rig won't have to be optimized for 4K (think of 4k like a sweet from time to time). 144Hz and a BenQ (always wanted a BenQ).

I'd like an overclocking friendly build, silence in general, and red/black configuration.

My budget for the computer is 2000€ max screens not included (around 2200 USD).

After a few days of learning how to build a pc, a shitton of LTTP videos, forums, reviews, comparison etc...  Here is what I found for a build:

-CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K @4.00 GHz

-Mobo: Asus Z97-PRO GAMER

-WC: Corsair H100i Hydro Series (also I'm considering the NZXT Kraken X61)

-GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 970 STRIX DirectCU II, 4 Gb (into later SLI)

-RAM: DDR3 G.Skill Trident X, 2 x 8 Gb, 2400 MHz, CAS 10

-SSD: Crucial MX100, 512 Gb, SATA III

-HDD: Seagate Barracuda 3 Tb

-PSU: Corsair RM750, 750W

-Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe (black) thats non negotiable, I WANT this case :D

-Screens: BenQ XL2430T or BenQ XL2411Z

Total (screens excluded): around 1800€ (~1900 USD) with single GTX 970.

Now the questions :

1) What do you think about this build in general?

2) I stumbled on some forum posts about the Corsair h100i having a loose backplate on Z97 mobos. Can anyone confirm?

Or if you have a better WC/Rad option to recommend I'm all ears.

3) If I use my old dell monitor for a second screen, will it impact performance on the 144Hz monitor?

That's all for now, I may have (stupid) questions later anyway.

Thanks in advance for anyone who will help/respond :) !

Bonjorno!

The build seems very solid to me. If you are building a rig like that I'd go with a 1440p monitor. The 970 is overkill for 1080p and is geared towards higher resolutions. To answer your questions:

1. Very nice build!

2. Never heard of that issue. Other people might contribute here.

3. Nope :)

The build in general does seem pretty good, out of personal preference I would get a samsung ssd . 1 970 won't run 4k all that great, especially not with dual monitors, 2 of them will give decent results with the right settings for the given game.

Second, I'm not a z97 user and don't know the details about the h100 backplate. If you're confident go for custom water cooling, even if you only do it on your cpu, it looks nice.

Using an old monitor won't impact performance.

Thanks for your replies,

For the h100i thing it's after watching this video ( /watch?v=-LuqMdHJxpI ) I feared a little.

About the samsung SSD, that's what I wanted in the beginning too but its like 330€ compared to the Crucial at 200€, is it really worth the 120€?

And no, i'm not confident enough to make a custom watercooling :D

New questions in general:

-Should I replace later the default fans of the case and the WC with something better/quieter?

-Recommandations for a 144Hz 1440p monitor?

I don't think that you should prioriteer fans. Also, the Samsung 850 evo 256GB comedy for around 115 euros in Belgium, 2 of them would, make 230 euros. You could as well go 256 GB and get a hdd, this will save you some cash, together with what you would save from keeping the standard fans on you would have 1/3rd of your 2nd 970 covered.
