should be a asrock..or gigabyte..or high end asus...asus boards under 150$ tho are pretty crappy

Yup it's good most Z97 boards are identical in this price range when you compare features so you can look at comparable Gigabyte and Asus boards if you want.

So I would personally go with a Gigabyte board but that's me.

No its not overkill it's in a good price point. Boards like the Maximus Vii Hero/Formula are overkill
