Long MB BIOS load time

Go to solution Solved by Zah,

Please let me know if that fixes the boot hang, I've been having the same issue occasionally.

I found the problem.  I removed the SATA cable from my optical drive, and it fixed my problem.  So it turned out to be a faulty SATA cable.  That may give you some help.

So I left my computer off for 2 days while I was out of the house.  When I came back, my motherboard (a Maximus VII Hero), has been taking longer to load the BIOS and then launch windows or the UEFI interface.

I haven't actually changed anything, and the strange thing is the first boot was actually the longest wait, and it got progressively better, but the wait is still there.  This wasn't a problem before, and I'm wondering if this is a problem with the board that has surfaced or if it's just something I can fix?

Try enabling fast boot.

Fast boot is enabled, I looked at the POST code being output during the long boot, and it said A2, so it's IDE Detect I think, I forget, trying to find my manual.

Change from IDE TO AHCI.

It w as AHCI, that's why I'm confused.

Windows now also fails to boot on the PC.

That's odd. What are your system specs?

I have a long MB Boot time as well with my Maximus VII hero, but sometimes the Asus ROG Logo just stays on the screen and hangs there (before it boots into Windows).  I have to restart  in order for it to boot correctly.

What keyboard/mouse do you have?

Main Rig:

i7 4790k @ 4.4GHz w/ H75 Liquid CPU Cooler - Asus Maximus VII Hero - 16GB G.Skill Triedent X 2133MHz RAM - 2x Gtx 660s in SLI - 120GB Crucial SSD - 1TB WD HDD NZXT Hue - K70 RGB Keyboard - Corsair Sabre RGB - Windows 8.1 - 2x Asus VN247H-P 1080p Monitors (I'm a sucker for lighting effects)

Server:

FX 8350 @ 4.0GHz w/ stock cooler - 8GB Crucial 1600MHz RAM - AMD Radeon HD 7450 GPU - 300W PSU - 120GB SSD - Windows 7

A Deathadder Chroma and a K70 non-RGB

I have a K70 RGB and a Sabre RGB and I've heard that the keyboard and mouse that I have can cause issues with booting.  I'd try disabling USB Initialization in the BIOS under the boot tab.

I'd also try:

Control Panel-> Power Settings-> Change what the power button does-> Change currently unavailable settings-> Uncheck "Fast-Startup

I'll try that in a bit, I have all USB devices unplugged and just letting the boot go normally to try and repair windows so that it can try to boot into windows with no USB drives attached.

Okay, so it seems to be booting more reliably, but the Windows installation is corrupted, so I have to repair it.  Need to find my discs and crap.

There is still hang going on, so I'm not sure if the motherboard or the SDD is at all stable, but we'll see soon.
