Hi,

Does two SSD in Raid 0 increase relocated sector count or is this a sign of one of the SSD going bad?   Thank you.

Hey davidst95,

The 05 entry in the S.M.A.R.T. status of all drives indicate how many sectors have been marked as "reallocated" and how many times data has been transferred from them to other sectors. RAID0 requires good synchronization between the drives and might reallocate some data due to misalignment between the drives. This usually indicates that the drives have begun to have bad sectors and might fail. I would also monitor the C5 entry of the S.M.A.R.T. status as it indicates the count of unstable and bad sectors that are waiting to be mapped in order to monitor the reliability of the drive.

You have to watch out for false negatives, seem some drives arrive out the box with 05 S.M.A.R.T warnings (normally caused by firmware issues), only worry if the number increases dramatically, been ruining SSD's in RAID 0 since they first arrived on the market, never once had an issue...
