I got my new cooler today and I really love it. I cant hear it at all and it keeps everything way cooler than my stock cooler did. I tried to start overclocking for the first time, and I put the voltage up to about 1.4v with like 4.2ghz. Whenever I boot into windows with even a slight overclock the temps never exceed like 55 but the whole pc freezes when it gets there. I used prime95 to stress test and none of the cores failed before it froze. Right now I reset the bios and its at stock settings and it hasnt froze yet and seems to be fine. So Maybe I didnt tweak enough settings? there has to be something I did wrong. This is my first time overclocking. What would you guys do? and where are some good tutorials for overclocking? I know youtube has some good ones but if there are better ones.

Right now at stock settings it idles at around 11 -20 degrees. No sound that I can hear.

Also there is one more option. My mobo is the asrock fm2a88x pro3+ and has this auto oc feature, should I use it? IM not sure how high it will overclock the cpu but it brings it to around 4ghz. cpu is the athlon x4 860k

well idk when Im just chilling in desktop its at like 11, but when I use chrome and all that stuff it goes up to around 20. either my cooler is good or the thingy Im using to check temps is inaccurate.

@DeViLzzz

The one I ran that failed was like 5 mins. After that I couldnt get it to get past like 2mins without the pc either freezing completely or telling me that windows had an error and that it would restart in a couple minutes (it never restarts on its own.) I always have to turn the pc off manually and turn it back on again after that.

Ok 1.45 volts is the max. voltage recommended for that cpu by AMD so I guess raise the voltage and see if your overclock works then.  Run it for a lengthy period of time and hell do the 24 hours like I said as it made me feel pretty comfortable that my overclock was ok.
