So, I've been abcent from the forums for a while, a few months.  Well, I'm back and will continue to be active.  Anyways, I've got a problem.

This problem is to do with my network speeds.

My download speeds are great, but my upload speeds are pitiful.  At the moment the ISP support really is horrible so I wanted to come here to see if you guys might know anything that could help me.

A few of my friends told me it is probably the ISP side, could be a faulty wire, or connection or could be the signal strength of the ISP is doing.

All of my local friends here all have the same upload speed as me.  And its really bugging me since we are paying allot for the internet and this upload speed just doesn't feel right.

So, I need your opinions if I can get them, before I call my ISP and go through hell.   I would like any help if I could.

FYI I am on Spark NewZealand ADSL unlimited.   (The modem and router are configured well and properly.)

Thanks and you guys are awesome!   Litterally everyone on the forum is awesome!!!  If anyone thought I was gone, you were wrong I'm just really busy.   I would never leave.

THANKS! :D

If the speed is th same for all your friends then it's the ISP, they would be limiting your upload speed. There's nothing you can do your side, you will have to talk to your ISP unfortunately

Pretty sure spark doesn't offer really fast upload speed on there adsl plans pretty sure they offer higher upload speed on their fibre plans this is what I get on vodafone

Wow fiber and you only get 2mb for upload that sucks

"Not feeling right" about your upload speed is a subjective opinion, since we don't know what you paid for. What if you are paying for 12/1 Mbps?

A lot of ISPs use the upload speed caps to save on bandwidth and network congestion. And their official statement goes along the lines of "Our research shows us that people do not use upload a lot, so why not limit something that's not being used?"

On the contrary everything you do on the computer results into some kind of upload.

By the way, it's much cheaper to pay for 10G/3G than for full 10G backbones.

ITU G.992.5 (also referred to as ADSL2+, G.dmt.bis+, and G.adslplus[1]) is an International Telecommunication Union standard for asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) broadband Internet access. The standard has a maximum theoretical download speed of 24 Mbit/s. Utilizing G.992.5 Annex M upload speeds of 3.3 Mbit/s can be achieved.

ADSL Asynchronous  IE down and up will not be the same

SDSL Synchronous both up and down the same

Last time I had to look at this max speeds were as below

ADSL 8/~0.5

SDSL 2/2

As you can see you lose a lot of download for that little bit of upload.

dzonidev, They cant have 10g/3g links thats not how it works, however most ISPs want to balance between hosting and end users, end users download a lot, web hosting/datacentres mostly upload so if they get it right they can get full use of their peering bandwidth to save unnecessary expenditure.

A little knowledge is very dangerous
