Okay, so I'll start with specs;

Intel Core i7-4790k

Asus Maximus VII Hero

NZXT Kraken X61

2X8GB Corsair Vegeance Pro @1866MHz

2TB Seagate Barracuda

2x Asus Strix GTX 970s

EVGA 750G2

NZXT H440

Everything is installed, everything feels cool, rad is cool, fans are spinning, pump is making noise and logo on the block is illuminated. "CPU Fan Error", something about overheating. So, I go in to the BIOS and it's showing the CPU in the mid 50's already, this is the first time booting. CPU temp rises until it hits 88c and stops. Mess about with fan speed, updated BIOS, checked cables, re-applied new thermal paste and tried with stock cooler, always hitting 88c. I installed Win10, and HWMonitor, showing the CPU hitting 99c. I think it's either a stuck CPU probe or motherboard sensor issue, and is just displaying an incorrect reading but I'm not 100% sure, was hoping someone could confirm.

I had an issue like this as well I think I fixed it by plugging the pump into another fan header...

CPU: Intel Core I7 4790k @ 4.0ghz MOBO: Asus z97-A GPU:  EVGA 970 SSC SLI  RAM: Kingston HyperX 8GB 1866  PSU: Corsair HX850W STORAGE: Kingston SSD 120GB, 1TB WD, 500GB WD CASE: NZXT H440

Since it was always hitting the same temperature regardless of cooler i would say it was a sensor issue. It's impossible to know if it's a motherboard or CPU issue without trying different hardware.

I can promise you its not the hardware the first time I booted up my pc I saw the temps sky rocket because of the same error now its under control and the temps are good.

Apart from OP has tried multiple different things and the reading is always the same. That is not normal. Hardware issue.

Yeah, thought it was hardware issue. Just wasn't sure if there was a way to check if it was CPU or Mobo. Kind of a pain, was hoping to have the rig ready for GTA V but looks like I'm going to miss the launch now, damn. I know it's not the pump because I tried with a different cooler and had the exact same temperatures. Tried different fan connections as well.
