So my brother just asked me for help saying that some files are starting to get corrupt(pictures, excel files and so on). At first my expectations were that hes got somekinda virus but he said he hasn't experienced any "youre files are encrypted, pay money to get back blah blah blah..." To make sure I ran malwarebytes and some shit showed up - mainly trojans and keyloggers but nothing much, can post the log if needed. So after that I decided to run error scan for bad segments but so far nothing has showed up(only have scanned 200gb so far).

Hes running Acre 5750G with Samsung 840 EVO and 500GB HDD. SSD in the stock drive bay but the hdd has been swapped places with the DVD drive using ebay hdd caddy.

Any suggestions to this problem would be highly appreciated because he really needs those files for school but I don't know what to do.

Youre already checking the drive thats what i would do. My bet is it has a bad sector. I would start transerfering all the data if this is the case, a pc store can sometimes get data off a bad hdd.

HDTune just finished error scan but everything was perfectly fine. I just noticed that pretty much all office files(.doc, .xls, .ppt and so on...) and some pictures are the only files that are corrupted so I'm leaning towards somekinda virus and now scanning it with kaspersky virus removal tool.

It probably won't get your files back however. Does your brother have backups ?

Sadly, not. Ugh, it could be a big problem.
