I'm thinking about swapping out my old 2TB hard drive with a SSD. But I heard from a friend that SSDs deteriorate every time you write to it. I use my PC for gaming and video editing, so I'm downloading updates, installing mods, recording and editing video files, and of course, installing more games. I heard that SSDs last longer than hard drives, but would an SSD still last longer even with all the gaming and video editing I do on my PC?

Also, I don't want to downgrade my storage space. 2TB SSDs are way too expensive, but I can get two 1TB SSDs for quite a bit less. So would there be any difference between having 1 SSD and 2 SSDs (besides the amount of space)? Like, would I need to make a separate backup for each SSD? Would there be a different speed like if I had two graphics cards in SLI? Would I need to install programs differently? Etc...

SSDs generally are only kept to hold operating system and programs. You shouldn't even be putting footage on an SSD. You could swap your HDD for an SSD to hold the OS, and programs, and hold footage and huge files on the hard drive, along with a backup of the SSD.

SSDs have come a long way according to this study:

SSDs do deteriorate with writes, but I doubt you can write two petabytes of data to your SSD before your HDD dies.

The reason SSDs are mostly used for the OS and essential programs is because it costs a lot for the storage.

Just put your OS and essential programs on the ssd and use the hard drive for the rest

What about games? Should those go on a hard drive or SSD?
