Internet Problems

Go to solution Solved by Hazy125,

Well the thing is, Im running wireless. I am promised 50d and 10up and im actually getting 60d and 25up on a wired connection so im really pleased.

I only get 25d wirelessy. But that is not the problem. The problem is that only one computer is facing slow speeds.

It is on my main rig and this never happened before. I tested my adapter on my laptop and it seems to work fine.

Update your gigabit driver or reinstall it...

So I am having trouble with my internet, but mostly on my main computer.

Overall it is kinda sluggish.

I can barely watch youtube videos without it buffering every 10 sec.

The speeds i get are 25 down and 25 up.

However, on my main rig i only get 4d and 20 up if it even runs.

Im not the greatest with computers so i cant really find the problem.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

Unplug your modem and router and leave it for 20 seconds or so. then plug everything back in and see if it works.

Also make sure that your computer isn't downloading games or updates. That can explain random bandwidth drops if the programs are running in the background.

If you have done both of these things, plug another machine using an ethernet cable and make sure that your connection is actually good.

I had a similar issue when temporarily using a USB wireless adapter. The download speeds would be crappy but I was getting full upload. Try the above option and if a wired machine gets the full speed, the only solution would be to get a better wireless card, or run a super long ethernet cable through your house. You can actually make your own ethernet cables at an extremely inexpensive price. That is of course, if you are not already running ethernet.

If all else fails and your connection is actually slow and it shouldn't be, call up your ISP and explain the issue. They should send a technician out to your house free of charge because it is an issue that you cannot solve yourself. It's possible that if you live in an older house, the cables in the ground are old and have degraded over time. Its really a guessing game until you find the general problem.

You hardly ever get what your ISP promises you, they may have recently made an infrastructure change to their systems which is affecting you or perhaps, depending on your connection type ie. Cable or ADSL or something you may be affected by other users in the area as some connection types are a shard medium, that is that everyone essentially runs off the same thing and the more users there are the slower it will run

Yeah but if you are getting less than 1/5 than what they promise you when the upload is higher than the download there is something wrong.

What you said about the load of the node you are connected to, here in the US a block in a neighborhood is connected to a node, and when that node is maxxed out everyone loses their bandwidth for a while. It has happened to me a few times and it gets annoying really fast.

It happened to me when I was with my last ISP, they had faster overall download speed. Amazingly fast for Australia but I only got a hundred gigs of downloads and when everyone jumped online I got throttled like crazy
