I'm having some problems with a platform upgrade for a friend. We've replaced an athlon 64 x2 and mobo with a q6600 and intel dp35dp mobo, which is fine, but the graphics card swap is not working. We've replaced an hd5830 with a 7870 and we can't get it to display. The 7870 works in other systems, we've used a few different ram kits with different combos, win 8.1 and win 7 with catalyst installed.

The error it comes up with is 5A, a sata/ata reset problem. We have taken out all drives and booted off usb, used just the os drive and still won't work.

Any Ideas? I'm thinking bad mobo.

have you update the BIOS?

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.
