Alright so I have an ASUS Strix GTX 980 and I'm planning on picking up a second for SLI sometime this summer.

I've been thinking though and I'm wondering if I should A. Pick up an identical Strix or B. Pick up the cheapest 980 I can find.  My thinking is that while I may not be able to achieve a great overclock, there really shouldn't be too much that I'm throwing at a stock 980 SLI rig that is really going to have performance issues.  The 980's are getting really fucking expensive here in Canada at the moment, to buy the equivalent Strix GTX 980 I'm looking at spending $750 before factoring in GST.  (For comparison, I purchased my existing 980 for around $700 after taxes a few months back.)  If I could find a used or cheaper 980 for a more reasonable price of $550-650, should I go for it?

Will SLI performance be affected by having mismatched cards? Do you guys think I will regret not matching the two for aesthetic reasons?  Should I just wait for the canadian dollar to not be terrible before I buy this thing?

I'm not exactly in dire need of more performance, but I definitely want to make the upgrade at some point for a few games and future proofing.  But if I can save some money doing it (that I can throw into something more useful) I'd definitely like to do so.

dont bother with another until the cad is worth more, you have enough performance that you can wait it out for awhile.

this is coming from a fellow Canadian

(plus you are in alberta, you have only a 5% gst and no pst, if you order online you  only pay gst)

I'd wait it out, one 980 is plenty to hold you over.

I wanted to upgrade to this 290x Lightning the moment I saw it, but it was 700 USD... I waited it out and picked it up for 369 USD.

CAD got back to .8 with USD last week, but it still doesnt look good. I think you should buy now as an improvment is not in the near future.

I bought my 4590 for $189.99 last year. Now guess how much it costs? $279.99

Pretty BS Canada should just use USD
