Are my CPU temps acting up?

Go to solution Solved by Raudi_,

Yes I know higher voltage and clock speeds cause higher temps but I've lost 10degrees C from changing the motherboard and I dont know if my temperatures are correct or not because I'm only using air cooling.

I've had my PSU for about a good 3years.

That can happen, I dropped temps when I switched mobo's because I needed less voltage. The are correct though if your seeing it throttle at all, it will be due to VRM's overheating.

Hmm it doesn't seem to be 80+ rated plus I can't seem to find the OEM for it. I would just look into replacing it, you can get a pretty nice 80+ Bronze 700W PSU for a good price nowadays.

Heya guys,

Just yesterday I upgraded my motherboard (Specs in Signature) and before I replaced my motherboard my CPU was overclocked to 4.2ghz on all 6cores and a max temperature of 54-55degrees Celsius. But for my new motherboard I overclocked it to 4.4ghz on all 6cores and hitting a max temperature of 46-47degrees celsius.

Note, I didn't run the test for long, but I'd imagine that 4 minutes of stressing would get near the max temp.

Are my temperature sensors faulty or what? It seems like a significant temperature decrease from only changing the motherboard...

Well your PSU looks like its in need of replacing, but its the overclock that you have on it now.

you are running a lower frequency and probably voltage too?

Im running a higher freg and higher voltage from my previous motherboard.

And there is your answer for the higher temps.

But in all seriousness really think about getting your PSU replaced the rails look really bad in HWMonitor. They should be within 10% of what they should be reading.

Sorry let me rephrase. On my old motherboard I was running 4.2ghz. With my new one I'm running 4.4ghz plus a higher voltage.

I thought the rails readings on hwmonitor are inaccurate?

4 minutes is not enough to hit max temp, it may stall there for awhile and then start climbing again, 30 mins-2 hours. Also you may want to run a gpu test at the same time to make sure that the increase in case temp doesn't increase the cpu temps.

Alright, I'll do that now.

The higer Voltage and clock speeds are causing the higher temps.

They are within a minimal margin of error but yours are really bad. How long have you had your PSU now?

Ahh okay.

Yeah it's not 80+ rated. But yeah, I will look into a new PSU. Thanks.
