Im new at all this so i figured i would come over here and ask. im planning a build and have a question concerning RAM compatibility. Im looking at getting an i7 4790k which says it only supports 1333MHz and 1600MHz RAM. But my mother board (Gigabytes Gaming 7) supports much more than that. Can i only use RAM that matches the CPU?

Disregard the CPU support. You go with the motherboard.

That speed is the Intel specification of the chipset. Your CPU will communicate with the memory bus at those speeds, If you put faster RAM in your system you will essentially be running an 'overclock' on the chipset that could cause instability but its highly unlikely.
