Currently have a shatty motherboard with a shatty chipset (Asus p5g41t-m lx plus). Want to get my q6600 as high as temps will allow, but my RAM is 1066 by default. My mobo handles up to 1333mhz only so when I set my fsb to 333 for the 3ghz Oc on my q6600, it bumps the RAM to 1333mhz. My temps are great but, past 333 fsb the pc stops past bios then after restart it says, "overclock/overvolting failed" because the RAM gets set higher than it's allowed. Is there any way to underclock the RAM a bit so when I push the fsb higher the RAM is still lower than normal. Can I maybe get 3.4ghz out of the CPU? My bios is very vague and has few options. (comparing it to my friends p45 mobo that he got a b3 q6600 to 3.4ghz on)

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

Don't know about your bios options, but my Asus board has an option for ram clock or ram speed or something, you should be able to set that lower than the default but your paticular board may not have that option.
