crossfire question (please help)

Go to solution Solved by JESUSARIUS REX,

You can. 270 can go with 270x. 280 can go with 280x. 290 can go with 290x. AMD has allowed similar cards to Crossfire for a long time.

Edit: I'm pretty sure you can crossfire the 270x with 7870, and a 7970 will CF with a 280x, so ya.

Edit2: The 270 and 280 series are rebranded 7070 series cards. The 290 series is the only new GPU. I'm guessing the 380x will be a 290x rebranded.

Edit3: Important note: The 280 will hold back the 280x some. The 280 has 1792 stream processors and the 280x has 2048.

if it's anything like SLI, then no.

again, i'm an SLI guy, not a crossfire guy. just my 2cents.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

You shouldn't, you should crossfire the same video card e.g. 290 with 290 not like 290 with 280.

Apparently you can, according to people on this thread.

But it says it is not compatible on AMD's charts.

But really isn't saying much, as it's just showing that it can only be crossfired with the same card.

Wont the Pentium bottleneck the crossfire though? I know for a fact that the G3258 bottlenecks a 280X.
