So I was really interested in Linus' silent gaming PC build. The build was pretty sexy and fit what I wanted

As I was looking at the parts it all totaled up to around $4000, which is really out of my budget, so I decided to down some parts of it

So I did

I'm trying to find a cheaper but also good processor so I can cut down the amount

I was looking at the processors on NCIX and found these two

I can't really tell the difference

If anyone can point me in the right direction of cheaper i7 that is still good that'd be nice

Thoughts and Directions would be much appreciated

When using a 960, for gaming at least, you really should be looking at an i5.

For more CPU bound stuff a 4790K will be the best consumer grade chip but only makes sense when overclocking. 4771 is better price if you don't plan to do that. If you plan to OC a Z97 based board is needed, but if you don't an H97 will suffice.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

For just gaming the X99 platform is total overkill, you'd be better off going with a mainstream i5 or i7 and one or two high-end graphics cards.

What's your actual budget and what do you want to do with your rig?

So would the i5 4690K be a better consumer choice since you're recommending an i5?

I'm also doing abit of rendering on it like Blender and Adobe Premiere etc

Thanks for the tip

Unless you really need the 6 or 8 cores of X99 CPUs, a mainstream i7 paired with a few powerful graphics cards should be your best bet.

If you're doing a lot of rendering the extra threads on the i7 will benefit you. I was just saying that if your most intensive task for it was videogaming, as it is for most people, the money is better spent on an i5 and a getter GPU like a 980. If you do real work on it that's a different story.
