Hello,

A family member of mine asked me to try to fix their external hard drive since it's not working properly.

I have no idea how to fix it though.

Before I had it, some files were not openning anymore and then it went to whole folders. Now I have it and I can't even open it. It simply says "Local Disk (F:)" (not sure if this is the correct term, I translated it to english) without showing how much space it has or anything like that.

Is there any way to get it working again, or at least recover the files? There were a lot of important/old photos on them that aren't in any other place. It's an LG hard drive by the way.

Thank you

Could be that USB connector is broken. Or power connector. I get this with my externals when connector is bit loose. If you aren't worried with warranty, crack the case open and plug it in as internal drive. Or try with another OS like live-CD linux if the file system has errors.
