Laptop wont boot to windows

Cs342

Hi guys, today I tried to turn on my Asus Zenbook UX32VD, but it wouldn't boot to Windows. When I turn it on, it displays the Asus logo for a bit,but then the screen goes black.I am able to access the bios. I have to submit an essay for college this weekend and I can't afford to lose all my files. Any solutions? Thanks!!

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

hmm. Tricky.

What OS are you running?

How many partitions are there and what are in the partitions?

All your files should still be on the hard drive even if Windows is not bootable. The easy thing I would do is first boot a Linux distro off a USB drive then transfer any important files from the HDD.

I don't have any other computer to download Linux from

Did windows 8 do an update last time you had it on or was it just a normal powerup?

Try to boot into windows recovery and maybe do a system restore.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/repair-recovery-help#repair-recovery-help=windows-8&v1h=win8tab1

Likely the OEM provided a partition for flashing to a stock-like system. At least Lenovo did with my Y50.

Make sure to backup before proceeding though, because I don't know if it will delete files or

When you boot it up there might be an F key which says something like 'recovery'. That should take you to the system restore as Stuff said.

Hmm. Can you try the "startup repair" in the recovery?

Also what laptop is it?

Ok so restoring will likely remove everything, so I don't suggest that yet (unless you've make a backup).

Maybe try repairing the filesystem through the command prompt. you should be able to access it with Windows recovery

then try to type in

 sfc /scannow
