Basic Blender question

- Set your 3D cursor to the center. (Shift + C)

- Change the pivot point to 3D cursor. (See image)

- Select edge/vertices and hit S to scale. This will scale the vertices toward the center. 

- If you don't want the Z axis to be affected press Shift + Z to prevent scaling on that axis.

This probably very I easy but I can't figure it out or find an answer online. How do i move a vertex or edge towards the center of the object (the orange dot in the middle). Trying to get back into Blender and can't remember basic stuff :(
