The $37 Dell

Now I constructed this system a few weeks before scrapyard wars but ever since watching it the more I wanted to get out of my "new" Dell.

The system is a Dell Optiplex 745 at heart with the only difference being in a Optiplex GX620 case.

All of the parts for this system were free except for the Core 2 Quad Q6600 that I picked up for $37 (including tax and shipping) on amazon.

I upgraded the stock Aluminum cooler to the copper heat-pipe one and it keeps the Q6600 running nice and cool.

I think I did quite well with this system and never realized how good of a deal it was until scrapyard wars. If you guys think of anything I should change/upgrade please let me know ;)

Quick Specs: C2Q Q6600, 6GB DDR2 666MHz, ATI FireGL v3600, 2x80 WD Caviar drives, 305Watt Dell OEM PSU, 2xDVD ROM + 1.44MB Floppy disk drive (Yes I still use floppys)

CPUID Validation: http://valid.x86.fr/tlnfdi(The cpu speed seems to be a little weird, trust me it is at stock 2.4GHz)

i like it, if it where me I would try to upgrade it as much as possible for as long as possible to see how good for how cheap i could get it, like an on going job

That is exactly what I plan on doing :) I might pick up a single slot GTX 650 ti or 750 ti if I ever have some money to spend. I tried putting 8GB of ram in it but it yelled at me even after a Bios update. So it is currently 2x2gb stick and 2x1gb sticks in dual channel.

Lucky... Pentium III is still more powerful than that stupid core 2 duo though ;)

I wouldn't be too sure about that though.

Just did a benchmark on the system using Pass Mark, nothing special. The video card is a different story...
