Hello!

I have ordered a Samsung 850 evo 120gb SSD, and I know that you need to change SATA mode to AHCI, so I went to the BIOS to check where I can find this setting. Under "Integrated Peripherals" I have setting called "RAID Mode", where I can switch from IDE to AHCI. Is this the same thing as SATA Mode? Also under "On-Chip ATA Devices", I can find RAID Mode again, with IDE, RAID and AHCI modes. Which one should I switch to AHCI? Just want to be on the safe side so I don't mess anything up. If you're wondering I have the MSI P55-GD65 motherboard.

Okey, do I need to switch my optical drive to the JMicron (blue SATA port) then? Read that optical drives doesn't work in AHCI mode, only in IDE mode.

You don't need to switch your JMicron SATA ports to AHCI, you can mix and match modes on different controllers just fine, however, I would recommend you keep them as AHCI so that you get the best performance from your drives.

I don't know where you heard that about optical drives on AHCI not working though, that's completely wrong, optical drives work perfectly fine with AHCI, the only issue you'll have is with OS's that don't have native AHCI drivers for third party controllers, but all you need in that case is the pre-install SATA drivers from your motherboard manufacturers website.

And finally, yes, change all the settings for AHCI under RAID for all your ports.
