I have a shitty laptop with a radeon 8550g, am I able to run a 1440p monitor over an hdmi? I don't want to use it for gaming, I just want the increased screen real estate.

 

Yes, you'll be fine. At the worst you'll have to set a custom resolution with the Custom Resolution Utility.

Well good, now that I know I wasn't a complete idiot rushing out to buy this monitor, I got my BenQ GW2765HT today, and I can't for the life of me figure out why it won't go past 1080p. When trying to use the CRU, it won't even add 2560x1440.
