Help with my new build

Which would be better for my new gaming rig. A i7-4790k w/ evga FTW 2gb 750 or a i5-4690k w/ evga gtx 4gb 960.

That is a tough decision a lot depends on the games you will be playing, but usually most games will benefit from a stronger graphics card vs a stronger processor as long as the processor is still decent.

is there a reason those are the only two options?

I'd say the i5-4690k with the 960, if it's just a gaming rig I believe you don't get much of a performance increase with the i7.

those are my options cuz they are almost equal in price and are in my price range. thx for the help bros                    the rest of my build is basic: msi krait mobo, 2x 4gb ram, 550 evga 80 plus gold, OD , 120GB SSD, corsair 450 case, w 8.1, and corair h60 cpu cooler.

4690k/960 would be better if your just gamming the i7 is just alot better with video editing

4690k/r9 280(280x) IMO. 280/280x is more powerful than the 960.

Take away the liquid cooling for now to get a more powerful GPU and get a hyper 212 evo.

I'd agree with removing the watercooling and replacing it with a 212 evo. It's a damn good cooler with a damn good price. The money you save can go towards a higher performance graphics card. And remember you can always change things in the future (i.e replace the 212 with watercooling at a later date when you have cash)

I used to have a 212 until I replaced it with an H100i, purely for aethetics. If you weren't going for a case with a window, 212 all the way to space.

Also, if this is a gaming rig I hope you have alternative mass storage arranged, like a 1 or 2 terabyte hard drive. The recommended storage available for GTAV is around 80GB, which is more than half the capacity of your SSD. Even if you aren't planning on downloading triple A titles, that SSD will fill up pretty quickly. I have a Samsung 250GB 840 Evo SSD, and I love it. 250GB can hold my OS easily and can still fit in quite a few games, though I have a pish Seagate Barracuda 1TB OEM drive for my less used games.

I think I got a tad carried away with my typing, but maybe you can make some sense of that wall of text
