So I just wanted to get some views from you guys about how I'm going to "futureproof" my rig. Currently, I got a GTX 960. I'm not running any overkill games or anything and I also needed a rig at that instant and my budget only allowed me a GTX 960. So I came up with a future proofing plan.

I got a 600 watt PSU for a few bucks more and I planned to SLI another 960 when I start noticing some performance drop, maybe next year because right now for my usage, the 960 works very well. And when performance do start dropping, I'm sure the 960 would be dirt cheap to pick up second hand from craigslist or something.

What do you guys think? Are there loopholes I missed out?

I don't think there are going to be major performance drops already next year, maybe 2-3 years.
At least that's what i got with my 660ti, still clocking along on it's own just fine for the latest games.

As for your plan, seems okay.
But you have to count in that not all games support sli that well and sli scaling can be a bitch sometimes.

But you should be just fine.

2GB will be the limiting factor for games which uses a lot of VRAM even at 1080P

i will suggest selling the 960 when is still worth some value and upgrade to a bigger GPU with more VRAM

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

I only ask because I had a friend tell me that with my single 960, I can play games on high to ultra settings with pretty good fps for the year and next. Once I start noticing that my card has some trouble playing them on high settings, then I should get another 960 and SLI them and my rig will last another year on high settings. And the next time I notice performance drops, I should be scraping the pc for a new and better one.

I won't upgrade because the step from a 960 to a 970 is a 220 bucks difference which I can't afford.

You should know since we live in such an expensive country.

prices will come down when a new GPU is launched

also if you save up now

you should be able to afford the 290X or 390X or the GTX970

whichever is cheaper

I had bad experiences with AMD cards before and I didn't like the UI compared to the Nvidia control panel so I usually tend to steer clear of the AMD cards. I know they're cheaper but yeah personal preference.

When the new series launches, I'll see how much the 970 and 960 drops to.
