My friend's laptop bleeps when I turn it on

Guest Brunozipt

My friend has an Acer 5820TG and he told me that when he turns on his computer, it bleeps for about 6 seconds, stops and just stays there with the acer logo.

If I take the keyboard off, it doesn't bleep and just shows me a black background like this:post-51815-0-35715400-1427736984_thumb.j

What is going on and what can I do?

Edit: Sorry for the orientation of the photo, I'm on my tablet

I replaced the HDD with one I have from another laptop and still shows up the same thing

So the HDD is probably fine. Check BIOS, see if it's set into AHCI mode. Double check boot order.

It is set to AHCI Mode. How exactly am I supposed to manage the boot order?

You should see something similar to this. Check if the HDD is first just to be sure.

Then maybe try CMOS reset ? If I looked up the right laptop you are looking at it when you have the plastic cover taken down.

OK,I can't reset CMOS through the BIOS. I'll have to open the laptop right?

Yep, It should be just a matter of taking it out, wait for like 15-30 seconds and put it back in and try to boot.

I've located the CMOS battery. The black part is stuck, should I leave it that way and just take off the conector?

Still bleeps with the keyboard plugged in and "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"continuous to show up. Thank you for your effort anyway, man

Sure, no problem. :) Try if you can at least get to a safe mode. Should be clicking F8 key right after you power it up.

Maybe there is something I don't see. But it looks to me like something on the board itself is fucked up.

Last thing, do you have a windows boot disk ? Try to boot into windows disk ? See what happens. If nothing again, I sadly can't help you more when I don't have the laptop under my hands.

I don't have one with me, maybe my friend has. I'll ask him

Try putting Linux onto a USB stick and seeing whether it detects the HDD. Sounds like it might be a dead SATA connection or something. Performing a BIOS update might fix it.

Sorry I can't be more help.
