I need a new GPU. The GTX 960 seems to be the only decent option currently. ( I will not get the 280/280x, why would I get the same gen gpu as my current 7750..)

My gaming resolution is only 1680x1050, so 2gb will be just fine, and also the fanless mode is a must.

This looks okay, what do you think about Zotac? http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00SIOF8R0/ref=s9_psimh_gw_p147_d0_i4?pf_rd_m=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0YQTF6QP0NBDVZ9TYPCE&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=455353687&pf_rd_i=301128

I would get the G1 gaming if they shipped to my place, but they don't. And it must be from Amazon (.de or .co.uk) because all local shops offer only some shady warranty service.

Budget is around 200-250 euros.

I don't always have time to study, but when I do, I don't.

-snip-

the Zotac seems all right, however, I would go with an Asus GTX 960 Strix edition.

thats a mistake..getting the 960 over the 280x

I might be more powerful, but in my case it just isn't worth it. It needs more power connectors than I have, and its cheap because its old, and I REALLY don't want an outdated card so soon. And it doesn't have fanless mode either (for someone who browses internet 99% of the time using pc, that is just awesome).

I don't always have time to study, but when I do, I don't.

That's like saying why would I get a GTX 980 when I already have a GTX 745.

No, it isn't. The 745 isn't 3 years old. My current gpu is 3 years old, and I wont get a new 3 years old gpu.

"Outdated"

I'm sorry, does the 7970 perform close to the 970? The nvidia flagship current gen?

Yes, stop ignoring facts.

Yes, it is outdated. It is powerful because it WAS the most powerful amd gpu 3 YEARS AGO, and it is cheap, because it is 3 years old.

I'm not ignoring any facts, I'm doing the most logical decision.

The 960 definitely seems like the go-to option here since it's quieter and that's what you're looking for. I just think newer = better is a crazy argument.

For me it is.

Why should I get a 280x:

+ +5 fps in some games

+ +1gb vram that will give me +0 fps

- more power connectors that I dont have

- higher power usage

- no fanless mode

- will be outdated a lot sooned

- lacks features that are on the 960

- more expensive

and there is more I cant remember atm.

If this doesn't make sense to you, then leave please @Tim Drake

The 960 is more likely to be outdated sooned than the 280x

Why? The 280x is getting replaced in the coming months and the 960 was just released 2 months ago. The 280x's place was in museum a long time ago.

I can tell you right now 280x is going to stay relevant for a while. However its not the only gpu so

good reasons not to go for 280x:

-somewhat high power consumption (almost irrelevant tho)

-some claim artifacting problems

bad reasons not to go for 280x

-"old tech"

-no fanless mode - thats just a gimmick, most have 20% fan speed which in normal conditions is inaudible.

-fanboyism

going with a 960 is ok if youre building a new PC, its just not much of an upgrade is all im saying. Currently i believe GPUs are really expensive so if you can hold out for a few months you should get a better deal. Currently its just not a good time to buy gpus/cpus especially intel or nvidia.
