New Liquid cooled pc

Go to solution Solved by Mouse-Potato,

I am looking to buy a new pc but i havent built one in a while so i would like suggestions.

I have a $3000 budget for the new pc. I would like something with a single gpu, and it would have to be quiet(mine bugs me).

I don't know much about water cooling as it is now so I'm looking for suggestions for that side of it more than anything and I would like an intel cpu because I do a lot of video editing and such.

I guess to sum up what everyone has said here concerning your question:

-For a CPU a 1150 platform would be more economical vs a 2011 platform not to mention that DDR4 memory is 2 to 3 times more expensive than DDR3. I'm not sure whether a big 140mm air cooled cpu cooler would be better noise wise than a water-cooled setup for the CPU, personally I'd go with a 140mm air cooled setup.

-If you want quiet you could go all watercooled for the GPU('s) those are generally what make a lot of noise when the fans spool up, and you'd most likely need a custom watercooled setup for those. If you do go watercooled on the GPU('s) then you might as well just add a waterblock to your CPU at this point anyways.

-Another noise source are Hard Drives, most people that are concerned about noise go with 2.5" drives instead of the 3.5" drives because they make a lot less noise.

You could just go all out balls to the wall and just throw in a bunch of SSD's and not worry about noise what so ever. You could invest a few hundred in http://www.ncixus.com/products/?usaffiliateid=1000031504&sku=94211&vpn=ASP600S3-256GM-C&manufacture=AData%20Technology&promoid=1574

-A custom closed loop liquid cooled setup is going to run you around $500.

-Also a quiet PSU would be the RM series by Corsair.

Are you looking for AIO or custom? I assume AIO (all in one/closed loop) but just like to make sure

Why on earth would you get a xeon with a custom loop & 2 980s..

3k budget screams custom loop.

With a $3000 budget you should probably go SLI. Either a Xeon 1231 or a 4690k with SLI gtx 980 would probably be what you should be going for with that budget. If you really want a single gpu you can get a Titan X but the value is not as good.

Hey now, you could easily rack up a 3k build with some X99 and Titan X's

Absolutely true, but in the OP he stated he wanted silence, and single gpu.

Agreed, but that's why I was asking if he's doing AIO or cutom. Since i know not to much about custom looops

I'd go with a 2011 board and a 6 or 8 core hyperthreaded CPU, 32gb or 64gb ram setup, use a 250gb SSD drive for OS and programs and use a couple HD's for storage (I like WD purple's) as for GPU's you could go with a couple watercooled 970's or a single Titan X with a waterblock.

For something of this caliber I'd go with a custom loop with at least a triple fan radiator. But if you don't want to deal with that mess you could use 2 seperate AIO systems, 1 for the GPU and 1 for the CPU.

Why not? It's usually cheaper. It's an i7 without the igpu.

Because if you're spending $600+ on a custom loop, not getting an overclockable cpu is pretty remedial.

Lool. All you need to know about custom loops is that they're awesome  :P

But I thought it is overclockable?

Oh I guess it's not. Did a quick google search. Yeah get a 4790k instead.

It is to an extent, and I believe you can find modded BIOS for motherboards where you can force things like that, I believe that's how people that set world records with xeon's at 6ghz do it.

Definitely not worth the whole ordeal though if you can just buy a 4790k lo

Water cooling isn't necessarily the best route for silent builds. After all, you have more sources of noise than in an air cooled build given the pumps and the large number of fans for the rads. Although you do get rid of the stock gpu coolers.

Not saying you can't have a quiet water cooled pc, but air cooled might be easier for silence.

That said though I think if I had a 3k budget I would go custom loop :P

As far as what to get for components that would depend on what you plan to do with it. Productivity, gaming, streaming, a little of each?
