Questions

Go to solution Solved by Fluxx,

1) I dont think they can be upgraded, build your own pc instead, a lesson you must learn is that alienware is garage.

2) No

3) Yes, there are programs that take the files from the windows disk or iso and copy it onto a usb which you can then boot from

4) Not really sure, maybe something like a 750. The 750 Ti will definitely be better

5) Yep, not sure how accurate it is though. http://www.game-debate.com/ Find a game and then put in your hardware at the bottom of the page and it will give you estimates

6) As long as the monitor has speakers then yes

Hi all, I have been doing some research, and I have a couple questions to ask. So i am trying out PC gaming and I am new to the PC world, (I have basic knowledge about PC's) and I have been wondering if I should build one or get a pre-built one. I could either buy a $550 Pre-built Desktop or build a $450 desktop and add an extra $80~$100 for Windows 8.1. I was thinking for a pre-built one, the Alienware Alpha. (Console/PC)

Alienware Alpha specs: http://www.amazon.com/Alienware-ASM100-2980-Console-i3-4130T-Processor/dp/B00MA7AF74

Core i3 4130T 2.9 GHz

4gb RAM

GTX 860m

Total: $450

I could add an extra $50 for 8gb Ram and another $50 for a 1TB 7200RPM Hard Drive for a total of $550.I can also upgrade the CPU in the future, but not the GPU.

Custom built PC specs:

AMD FX-6300 - $95

MOBO: Asus M5a78L-M/USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ - $50

Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8gb (2x4gb) - $60

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB Hard Drive - $53

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti Superclocked Video Card - $125

Case:Thermaltake Commander Ms/I Snow Edition (White/Black) - $40

PSU: EVGA 500w - $21

Software: Windows 8.1 - $88

Total is around $535

Questions to ask:

1) Is it possible to have an i7-4770K on the Alienware in the future?

2) Should i get the R7 260x instead of the 750 Ti?

3) Is it possible to install Windows on a Flash Drive? If so, how?

4) What is the GTX 860m compared to, to a Desktop GPU?

5) Is there any website where I can check if my PC specs can run a game?

6) If I do build a PC, will there be sound on a monitor when I hook up and HDMI cable?

I am not looking forward to playing really demanding titles. Just games like Payday 2, TF2, Planetside 2, World of Tanks, etc. (maybe Titanfall too) at least 30+ FPS on High or Ultra. I already have a Monitor, keyboard, and a mouse.

Sorry if some of the questions sound stupid, but all answers are appreciated. Thanks!

build your own.

the GPU is up to you.

you can install windows via usb simply by booting to the usb

the 8xx series was skipped on desktops, but a good 7xx ti will be about the same honestly.

can you run it? http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri

yes if you set up your sound setting in windows to pump sound out the hdmi port and if your monitor has speakers.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.
