Hello there,

I just recently start develop an android app with android studio, my laptop can handle the IDE just fine...

but when I start to run the AVD or android emulator thing, it start laggy and hang every few seconds..

I already read some article about system req for android studio but nothin is exactly clear , is android studio or the AVD is more GPU-hungry or CPU-hungry software

, I also believe I will be need at least 8 GB of RAM, and do I need SSD?

There's also a guy at stackoverflow that do a lil experiment with 2 PC, one with i3 and one with i7 , the difference is at the responsiveness of the app, but both have the same compile time

I'm all ears m8 :)

EDIT : the budget is around 500-600 USD, but I love to be able save more money for other stuff

Use an Intel processor with hyperthreading so you can use hardware acceleration for the emulator and use at least 4GB RAM

AMD FX8350  2x ASUS Radeon R9 270X 4GB  ASUS Sabertooth 990FX  -  Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3 16GB

I would recommend getting some android device even a super cheap one, because it will probably be cheaper and run better than AVDs on a low-mid range pc. You will also have access to real hardware, so you'll have a better understanding how it will run on an actual device and will be able to use things like gyroscope, accelerometer. If you do decide on getting a better computer make sure the cpu supports Intel VT-x virtualization otherwise it's not worth getting it, because it will be TERRIBLE.

Sorry, but this will run AVDs terribly. You MUST have an Intel cpu with VT-x for AVDs to run well

Lenovo Y50 (i7-4710HQ, 1TB SSHD, 16GB RAM, 860m 4GB), Nikon D3300 (lenses: 18-55mm kit, Tokina 70-210mm vintage)

P.S. Sorry for my bad english :/

It does not have to be an i7 and something like a quad-core i5 would be ideal. Number of cores doesn't really matter, but to be safe and future-proof, don't settle for less than four. Be sure that the CPU you choose does support virtualization
