Overclocking?

I have a Msi 970 and i'm thinking about getting the asus matrix platnium 980. Ive read a lot about overclocking and would really like to do it but Im terrified of destroying my card. Anyone have a good resource for learning how to overclock, what to and what not to do? Most of the guides I've seen dont specify safe limits and they dont explain much, I get the feeling that they assume you know what you're doing. I need an explination broken down into bite size pieces for me or a guide telling me exactly what to do. Im a noob with money to burn and a thirst for knowledge. Thanks.

Paul's Hardware has a good video about overclocking a 980. I generally use MSI Afterburner and tweak the GPU using it instead of the software that ASUS or other companies provide.

No problem! Generally, if you want to make sure your GPU is stable, use Furmark, or Valley benchmark (which I like better) for 24 hrs and see if it doesn't crash.
