Introduction:

As I am a keen gamer I decided that I wan't a PC which can handle reasonably high quality PC games, unfortunately at the time I was OS X user, so as you can imagine this was impossible. Being an OS X  user (yes I do prefer the overall operating system to Windows) and also a graphic designer, I was looking into a way round this.

Of course installing Windows is the obvious solution but my current (old now) mid 2011" iMac was no where near powerful enough for games (it would get extremely hot and freeze running a game like Fallout New Vegas). I then discovered the fact you can build a PC which can run both operating systems, this can potentially save you costs and allow for upgradability and expandability.

I had a budget of roughly £1200 to work with (this cost took into account a monitor, keyboard and mouse).

The Build:

This was my first ever custom PC build so it was quite scary going into this, especially trying to build something where every component needs to be spot on! Anywhere here is the specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H

Processor: i5 4690k

Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX 780 3GB Windforce

RAM: 16 GB Crucial Ballistix DDR3 1600mhz

PSU: Corsair 750 watt

Case: NZXT H440

Storage: 2x 128GB Samsung EVO SSDs (One SSD is for booting OS X the other for Windows 8) 1x 1TB HDD (for storage for OS X) 1x 1TB SSHD (storage for Windows)

This is the base of my build. I went for a CPU I could over-clock incase I ever need to eek more performance out of my machine but so far this has not been an issue (writing this thread 3 months after the build has been completed), I also have 2 more RAM slots just incase I ever need the extra RAM. I read that certain models of GTX 780 seemed to have some trouble with OS X, luckily I had little trouble (just had to play around with the nvidia drivers a tad).

Issues:

Luckily I have no issues what so ever with my build in terms of software. Both windows and OS X run perfectly well, with everything working on OS X (by everything I mean everything). However if I could I would change the case I used for my PC. The NZXT H440 struggles with room for cable management, due to this I haven't been able to fit the side panel on properly, this is not a major problem but it annoys me! The other complaint I have is an issue with OS X, it is extremely annoying to set up and manage a computer with two separate hard drives.

My Thoughts:

I have been using the build for over three months now and I have no problems what so ever. The build meets the criteria that I want it too and can run most modern games at 60fps (being able to play games at 60fps has made me move away from consoles). I am seriously happy with my build! If any needs help building a Hackintosh feel free to get in contact! If you wish to add me on steam go ahead, it is just the same as my username!
