dual 260x vs 970

Go to solution Solved by Tim Drake,

970 hands down.

Those cards in CF are pretty weak.

They don't scale very well.

Hello,

I have been wanting to upgrade my graphics card for a while now but I don't know what would be the way of doing it. I know a lot of people say its better to have card over two but the difference for me would almost $200. This would be my time having potential dual graphics cards and wanted some advice from people who know a lot better than me.

To start I currently have a 260x as my graphics card and was consider just buying the same card or maybe selling it and then buying a gtx 970. My main question is which one would be faster and then what would be the performance difference between them. Also would I need a monitor with two dvi or hdmi ports on it to run dual graphics?

if you can get the 970, it's 4GB of vram, it will be well worth it in the next years

and no, you don't need double cables for dual graphics, you connect graphics cards inside your case (The orange thing --> http://core0.staticworld.net/images/article/2013/01/crossfire-100019573-orig.jpg )

@Crazy Steve go with the 970 over crossfire scaling issues.

As for what dual 260x cards can do these videos will at least let you know something ....

Really nice performance from what I see above and hey in getting a 2nd one you should look at getting one used as anyone that got this card and is upgrading would probably not ask very much for it as they could not get very much for it.

In regards to the GTX 970 it is card for people who want to buy a card from a company that lies and also puts .5 GB of super screwed up VRAM in the 4 GB total VRAM they give you.  Don't support Nvidia.  Buy their cards used or don't buy them at all.

Oh shut up and stop whining. Its still an amazing card. Without it the r9 290x would still cost over 500$. Anyways op: a single gtx 970 is actually as fast as two 280s/two 960s. An r7 260x in crossfire will achieve no where near the performance of a 970.
