New build, installed windows 7 (legit copy) off of a USB drive, installed just fine. Ran all the windows updates, have all the latest drivers for my PC's hardware.

About 99% of the time, if I shut down, or restart, doesn't matter, when I power back on the system, it seems to boot normal, the X99 screen pops up, and then the screen goes black, and the monitor turns off as if there is no connection.

It posts as if there is nothing wrong with it. The motherboard does not throw a post code, it just shows the CPU temp as if it had booted properly. However I cannot use any keys, (num lock will not function on/off on my keyboard), nothing, just black screen. Bad PCI-E port? But that wouldn't explain the keyboard not being able to function with at least a num lock cycle on/off. I have no idea.

I am using a Samsung 4k UH590D or whatever the model number is, with a DP connection (yeah yeah, joke here). I have no clue where to begin on this, it is annoying as it happens every day.

The usual fix for me has been to power the pc back off, and then back on until it boots into Windows. Sometimes it works on the second reboot, sometimes it takes five or so.

Do I need to just re-install Windows again? Re-format my SSD and start from scratch?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks for your time!

Try swapping ram sticks with each other. Usually helps.

@Kermit, yes the system stays on until I turn it off.

@paprikman, is that really a thing? I will give it a shot in the morning. What would cause this issue?

Bad ram causes all sorts of issues, usually not posting, which your system kiiiiind of is. I suspect either its your ram or GPU output.

With my system , it boots with the onboard graphics in the CPU, though switches over to my GPU after it displays my motherboard screen. This could very well be your problem. Try taking out your graphics card and plugging in your display to your motherboard. (I know you have a 4k monitor so just use an older one)

It has a HDMI input, so I can run that to it. Everything is brand damn new in this system. Grrrr....

But would the display part cause my mouse/keyboard to not work? The lights stay on, onthe keyboard and mouse, but I can't do anything. The num lock stays illuminated if I try to disable it, and the DPI lights do not change on the mouse.

Well, Kermit, damnit I believe you were right. I just swapped video cards. I threw my GTX Strix 770 in place of my GTX Strix 980, and voila, it works every single time. I booted it up ten times in a row.

RMA time?

yaaaay lol
